Forest Lagoon – A Geothermal Spa in North Iceland

Forest Lagoon is a modern geothermal spa located just five minutes from downtown Akureyri, North Iceland’s largest town. Nestled among the trees of Vaðlaskógur forest, the lagoon offers breathtaking views over Eyjafjörður fjord and the surrounding mountains, creating one of Iceland’s most peaceful bathing experiences.

Whether you’re exploring North Iceland, driving the Diamond Circle, or visiting Akureyri, Forest Lagoon is the perfect place to relax in naturally heated geothermal water.

Geothermal Pools with Fjord Views

The spa features two geothermal infinity pools, maintained at a comfortable temperature of around 37–38°C (99–100°F) throughout the year. Surrounded by forest and overlooking Eyjafjörður, the pools provide a tranquil setting where guests can unwind while enjoying some of the best views in North Iceland.

For added comfort, guests can also enjoy swim-up bars serving refreshments without leaving the warm water.

Finnish Sauna and Cold Pool

Forest Lagoon offers a traditional Finnish dry sauna with panoramic views of the fjord. Next to the sauna is a cold plunge pool, allowing visitors to experience the refreshing contrast between heat and cold—a popular part of Nordic wellness culture.

Skógur Bistro

The on-site Skógur Bistro serves light meals, drinks, coffee, and local refreshments in a relaxed atmosphere. With large windows overlooking the forest and fjord, it’s an ideal place to enjoy a meal before or after your visit to the lagoon.

A Unique Spa Experience in Nature

Unlike many geothermal spas, Forest Lagoon blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings. Guests walk through a peaceful forest before arriving at the lagoon, where contemporary Icelandic architecture meets untouched nature.

The combination of geothermal water, spectacular scenery, and quiet surroundings makes Forest Lagoon one of the top wellness destinations in Iceland.

Whether you’re looking to relax after a day of sightseeing, soak in geothermal hot springs, or simply enjoy the beauty of North Iceland, Forest Lagoon offers an unforgettable experience just minutes from Akureyri.

Opening hours

Open daily from 09:00 – 00:00.  Visitors need to leave the lagoon by 23:30.
